The Honorable David P. Sokola


David P. Sokola graduated from Mount Pleasant High School (1973) and the University of Delaware (BSPE 1977). He taught in Delaware public schools during the desegregation transition period before becoming a Lab Technician at the DuPont Experimental Station in 1981. He is currently an Associate Investigation in DuPont's Corporate Center for Analytical Sciences and will be moving to the new Chemours Company on July 1,2015.

Senator David P. Sokola has served in the Delaware State Senate since 1990 and has served as the Chairman of the Senate Education for the past 23

years. Dave has sponsored significant education reform measures under 4 Governors including the Delaware Charter School Law (1995), Public School Accountability (2000), Full Day Kindergarten (2006), and the modernization of the Delaware Educator Licensure/Certification Law (2013).

Senator Sokola has been recognized and honored with numerous awards including: the, the Sierra Club Award for outstanding achievement in environmental leadership, DSEA Friend of Education Award, the Delaware Office of Highway Safety Friend of Highway Safety Award, and the University of Delaware's College of Education 2nd Mile Award for his contribution to education in Delaware. Senator Sokola has a passion for physical fitness. He is an avid cyclist and certified spinning instructor.

He is married to Dr. Kathy Sokola, a nursing instructor at Del Tech Community College and they have one daughter, Megan.
